Badlands Residency Day 17
April 7, 2011
Tonight I'm officially half way through my stay here. I spent most of today mulling over that while painting, feeling somber. Still working on a big one of Sage Creek, taking my time and slowing down to my typical style. This one needs it. In the evening Ed and Steven came over to cheer me up and I made us dinner. We ate outside on the porch, and then joined Ryan to watch part of a movie and sit around talking. It helped.
I've been snapping photos as I work on this painting with the intent to show the process along the way. If I find time tomorrow, I might get them posted. Next week I will be teaching art at Interior School. 54 kids, four classrooms, grades K-8th. I have met the teachers and have my plan in mind, but I need to prep a few more materials and tailor my plan for each age group. Hope to get that done in the morning. Ed is going to take me and maybe some others out to a paleo site after lunch, which is always fascinating. Oh, and I have a new neighbor, she does bird research and is here placing recording devices for monitoring bird calls. She invited us to come along sometime, which sounds great except for the 4am departure time. Eek. I'll have to go for it sometime though, it's too interesting to pass up.
