I woke up to the
sound of rain on the roof and so expected to spend the whole day
painting. Had to run the park's projector I used with the kids back
to the Visitor's Center. As I walked over there a spot of blue
appeared in the distance, and patches of sunlight began to move over
the wet buttes. Ran back to the apartment, grabbed my camera and
water, hopped in to the car, and set off to chase the shadows on the
rocks. Spent almost four hours tooling all over the park, windows
down, wind whipping, singing along to Greg Brown. That spot of blue
expanded to create a glorious sky with clouds shifting and drifting
about. Absolutely beautiful. By early afternoon I was way over in
Sage Creek and realized I was starving and had no food along. Headed
back to the quad, and just before I got there, the clouds began to
move back in and an hour later more rain came. I still got some good
hours of painting in before having snacks and a wild game of
basketball with neighbors.
