Joshua Tree National Park - Artist in Residence Day 1

Joshua Tree Arrival

I woke up in my cozy room at the Harmony Motel, showered, got some coffee in the kitchen, then sat on the patio to work a little bit on a project.  At 10am I met my ranger friend, and point of contact for this residency, for coffee in the town of Joshua Tree, closer to the side of the park I'm staying in.  We then headed into the park to set me up in my quarters, a room an inter-agency fire center for the NPS and BLM.  I have my own room, and there is a shared bathroom, laundry, kitchen, living room, gym, etc.  It's well appointed and everyone I met is very nice.  Next we had to drive back over to Twentynine Palms to fill out some paperwork for my stay, and then we grabbed lunch before coming back to the west side of the park.  I had the afternoon to unpack my car and start setting up my room.  I made a run to the grocery store, and went over to my friend's house for a couple hours to finish the evening.

The hotel has a number of images from the U2's visit to this area.
The Ocotillo is still living, but the palms didn't make it.
