Today I joined a couple rangers for a field trip with some fourth graders to Hidden Valley. We hiked the loop, with stops to learn about the geology of this area, and ended the hike with a scramble through the boulders, over, under, and around the rocks. As we came around a corner, there was a rattlesnake just a foot away from the trail we were all walking, the first class walked past without seeing it. He wasn't bothered by us, but it's always a good reminder to realize how easy it is to miss something even when you're looking.
